I recently read something that really enraged me. This ugly article is written by the type of voice I choose not to surround myself with. One thing I can say for absolute certain is that my world changed when I changed my diet. Literally. In the last two years, I’ve lived in five new countries and have visited countless others. The way I felt before, I simply wouldn’t have had the energy or motivation to live this lifestyle and I owe a lot of the credit to bloggers like Vani Hari, Food Babe, who helped opened my eyes.
I’ve followed Vani since before she became the activist she is today. Sure, she made some mistakes but has come a long way. Not very many people believe in something so strongly and actually set about to make a change not just for themselves, but for others. Because of people like her, awareness is finally being spread to the general public that the “food” industry has marketed their products in such a way to make us believe it’s healthy. Because of her voice, harmful additives affecting us and our loved ones are being removed from our foods. These may only be small changes but it takes small steps to get anywhere and most importantly, to lead us to a healthier future. Now our eyes are open and we can make informed decisions about what we put in our bodies.
Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food
Part of my fury over this is that I can relate. When I changed my diet, while some were inquisitive, many were judgmental. I may never have been publicly attacked but I got ridiculed plenty starting with people close to me. Some just couldn’t understand why I was forgoing french fries for veggies since I was already skinny and no matter what I said, no one wanted to believe I was doing this to be healthy. Since then, the rudeness has eased considerably; however, I still get challenged at dinner tables and get snide comments when the subject comes up. Don’t get me wrong though, there are definitely those that are inquisitive and I get to have lovely conversations with them about nutrition over dinner! Thankfully, the positive changes I’ve experience outweigh any negativity!
Anyway, enough ranting from me. My wish to you is that you open your eyes and see just how much your world can change when you incorporate a holistic healthy lifestyle promoted by people like Vani Hari, Food Babe.
